The AMUSF Essential Soft Furnishings certificate is a 1 year course taught in line with the academic year. 2023/2024 in take will run on Thursdays and Sundays. You will need to attend a minimum of 11 in studio days Between September and May. You may choose either a mix of thursdays & sundays or stick to either or, so long as 11 days in total are completed.  We can comfortably host 5 students per day. However on the days where you are required to complete a full sized make, this will be limited to 3 students per day.

2023/2024 dates

Thursdays    SEPT – 21ST,  OCT – 5TH, NOV- 16TH, DEC-21ST, JAN-11TH, FEB-15TH, MARCH-21st, APRIL-25TH, MAY 23RD.

Sundays   SEPT-24th, OCT-22ND, NOV-5TH, DEC-17TH, JAN-28TH, FEB-18TH, MARCH-24TH, APRIL-21ST, MAY-19TH JUNE-3RD

There will also be a 6 month fast track option running between December and June. This course will run on the same days but will mean you will need to attend 2 days per month compared to 1 day per month on the 1 year option.All other details remain the same as the 1 year duration however on the fast track you will be required to complete both the Thursday and Sunday dates.

Course content

Eleven in studio days, one online business day with Wendy, 2x at home projects to complete .

You will learn how to –

• Make a lined curtain with heading tape (sample size)
• Make an interlined curtain with border and hand finished headings (1x sample size, 1 x full size)
• Make a lined roman blind with trim (sample size) Make an interlined roman blind with contrast mitred border (1x sample size, 1x full size)
• Make a bolster cushion with invisible zip and decorative detail.
• Make a piped cushion with concealed zip.
• Make a piped hard padded headboard (sample size)
• Make a box cushion in a striped fabric with piping and a zip.

ALL ASSESSMENT PIECES MUST BE COMPLETED AND AVAILABLE FOR THURSDAY THE 1ST OF AUGUST

EXTERNAL VERIFICATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT 10.30AM AUGUST 2ND

Course costs – £2950 to include all fabric and habedashery for sample pieces, excludes fabric and habedashery for full size assessment pieces.

£72 student registration fee to the AMUSF, this must be paid within the first 4 weeks of commencing your course and is not included in the £2950.

Your full sized assessment pieces must be made available for the agreed dates given at the end of the course by the external assessor.

This is a non refundable certified course. In exceptional circumstances you may be able to defer. This will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Unless exceptional circumstances which would be reviewed by the AMUSF, if you miss the assessor dates you will not pass this course and you will not be entitled to a refund or to defer.
